How to Commission a Mural: A Step-by-Step Guide
Whether you’re a business, community leader, or private client, this step-by-step guide walks you through the mural commissioning process—from concept to completion. Learn how to plan, set a budget, and bring your vision to life with clarity and confidence.
1.
CONSULTATION
You reach out via my contact form or WhatsApp with your idea.
We have a free initial chat to feel out the space, your vision, and the vibe.
In-person site visits (if needed) are £50 and deductible from the final mural cost.
2.
QUOTE
Based on your wall size, detail level, and location, I’ll send over a quote.
To secure your spot, I require a 30% deposit and signed agreement.
3.
DESIGN
You’ll receive an initial concept sketch.
Two rounds of design revisions are included.
Extra design changes are charged at £40 per round Once approved, we lock in the final design and schedule the painting.
4.
PAINTING
I’ll paint the mural over the agreed days.
You’ll receive progress updates if you’re not onsite.
The final 70% payment is due once the mural is complete and approved.

Minimal Magic
Best for: Clean shapes, minimal line work, symbols, or simple backgrounds.
These pieces focus on bold colour, impactful forms, and minimal visual complexity. Ideal for smaller walls, simple feature pieces, or areas that don’t need intricate storytelling.

Lucid Layers
Best for: Dreamscapes, natural elements, layered colour, textures, and some symbolic detail.
This tier adds more visual depth — you’ll see more shading, movement, and detail, but still with open space to let the piece breathe. These are great for personal or business spaces where you want story and energy without full overwhelm.

Detail Dream
Best for: Complex compositions, textures, surreal scenes, and full psychedelic storytelling.
These are deep-dive murals — the kind you get lost in. Layers of meaning, intricate visuals, and a powerful presence. Perfect for feature walls or large-scale, high-impact pieces.

Your quote includes 2 design revisions. Additional revisions are £40 per round.
Last-minute design changes after final approval are charged at £60/hour.

Usage Rights
All murals created by Ellie Mae remain the intellectual property of the artist. By commissioning a mural, you are purchasing the physical artwork and the experience of a custom piece—not the rights to reproduce, alter, or resell the design.
I retain the right to:

Photograph and share the mural on my social media, website, and portfolio.

Create prints or merchandise featuring the artwork (unless otherwise agreed in writing).

Use the artwork for promotional or exhibition purposes.
You may:

Enjoy and display the mural in your space, and share photos online (please tag or credit when possible!).

Use photos of the mural for personal or non-commercial purposes (e.g., social media, blogs, etc.).
You may not:

Reproduce the mural on products (e.g., T-shirts, posters, packaging) without a separate commercial licensing agreement.

Edit, paint over, or replicate the design elsewhere.

Sell or distribute images of the artwork for profit without written permission.
